The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a 36-year-old woman from spousal abuse in Asokoro Extension, Abuja. The agency said the intervention came after credible intelligence prompted its Rapid Response Squad to act swiftly, ensuring the victim’s immediate safety.
According to a statement by NAPTIP, the suspect, Mr. Godwin, a 48-year-old man from Kenshishe community in Benue State, allegedly assaulted his wife of 22 years. The agency highlighted that such acts of domestic violence are taken seriously under its mandate to protect vulnerable persons.
NAPTIP confirmed that the rescued woman has been moved to a safe location, where she is receiving necessary care and support. The agency has also launched an official investigation into the matter and vowed to pursue all legal avenues against the suspect.
“The protection of women, children, and other vulnerable groups remains our top priority,” NAPTIP stated. The agency further urged the public to report cases of domestic violence, abuse, and exploitation to ensure prompt intervention and legal action.
