Four young boys from the Igede community in Benue State have been rescued from a suspected child trafficking operation in Lagos State.

The rescue operation, carried out on Monday, April 20, 2026, was led by the Omi Ny'Igede Youth Wing Development Association (ONYWDA) Worldwide Taskforce Committee on Child Trafficking, Drugs and Substance Abuse, in collaboration with the Igede Leadership Forum in Lagos.

The children identified as Egbe Paul, Egbe Peter, Egbe Michael, and Ondor Moses, were reportedly trafficked from Ojumole community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State to Lagos before their rescue.

Following the operation, the victims were placed under the protective custody of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG) and were subsequently reunited with their families.

In a follow-up action, the taskforce committee, led by its Chairman, Comrade Ogbu Lion Ogbu, moved to Ojumole community to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend individuals allegedly involved in facilitating the trafficking.

Sources indicate that some parents were among those implicated in the development.

However, traditional rulers in the community intervened, appearing before the taskforce committee and signing a formal undertaking to ensure that such incidents do not occur again. Based on this agreement, the suspects were released under strict conditions.

The ONYWDA taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to combating child trafficking and protecting vulnerable children across Igede communities and beyond.
