Building a record of Benue's markets

The September 8 survey is part of Benue Info-pedia's continuing Market Intelligence project, which seeks to document prices in local markets and establish a reliable historical record of commodity movements.

The objective is not simply to publish isolated prices, but to build comparable records that can help show how the cost of agricultural produce changes across different periods and, eventually, across different markets and local government areas.

For consumers and traders, the figures provide a snapshot of prices recorded in Aliade on the survey date. For farmers, businesses, researchers and policymakers, the continuing records could provide useful evidence of changing market conditions.

However, market prices are not fixed. Actual transactions may vary depending on quality, quantity, supply, demand, bargaining and the specific trader or section of the market.

Benue Info-pedia will continue monitoring Aliade Market and other markets across Benue State as part of its effort to document local economic activity through data-driven reporting.
