Fresh market monitoring at Aliade Market in Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State has recorded new price movements across grains, legumes, oilseeds, tubers, fruits and other agricultural commodities, providing another snapshot of trading conditions in one of the state’s important agricultural markets.

The latest figures, monitored on Saturday, October 3, 2026, show continued high prices for several major agricultural commodities, with bene seed, melon (egusi) and soya beans among the most expensive items recorded.

According to the market data monitored by MC Oliver Nyikyaa De Busy Brain, a 100kg sack of bene seed was selling for ₦150,000, while melon (egusi) stood at ₦140,000 per 100kg sack. Soya beans were recorded at ₦100,000 per 100kg sack.

Other grains also remained significant in the market. Maize was priced at ₦45,000 per 100kg sack, while guinea corn sold for ₦50,000 per 100kg bag. Rice paddy was recorded at ₦60,000 per 100kg sack.

For groundnut, the latest observation showed fresh groundnut at ₦60,000 per 100kg bag, compared with ₦48,000 for dry groundnut.

Garri, in both green and yellow varieties, was listed at ₦28,000 per 100kg bag.

Fresh produce also recorded notable prices. A basket of tomatoes was selling for ₦8,000, while sweet potatoes were priced at ₦12,000 per bag and oranges at ₦20,000 per bag.

The market record further placed a big bag of fresh akpu at ₦1,500, while new yam was reported at ₦100,000 for 100 tubers. A bottle of red oil sold for ₦1,700.

The latest figures indicate that price movements remain uneven across commodities. For example, Benue Info-pedia’s earlier September 28 monitoring recorded soya beans at ₦95,000, maize at ₦45,000 and garri at ₦28,000, while tomatoes were reported at about ₦9,000 per basket.

The movement in soya beans therefore represents a ₦5,000 increase from that earlier record, while the reported tomato price is ₦1,000 lower. Such changes reinforce the importance of regular, location-specific market monitoring rather than relying on isolated price reports.

Benue Info-pedia’s continuing Aliade Market Intelligence project is designed to build a historical record of commodity prices that can eventually help track trends across different dates, commodities and markets in Benue State. Previous monitoring has also documented substantial changes in the prices of egusi, bene seed, maize, groundnut and other agricultural produce.

However, the reported figures should be treated as market observations rather than fixed prices. Actual transaction prices may vary depending on quality, quantity, supply, demand, location within the market and bargaining between buyers and sellers.
