The Benue State Football Association (FA) has seeded Lobi Stars directly into the 2026 Federation Cup final, with Flight FC and Idoma United set to battle for the remaining spot. The competition is scheduled to kick off on April 11, promising a thrilling showdown for the state’s football fans.
Only three clubs are in contention for the prestigious state title. As defending champions, Lobi Stars automatically secured a place in the final, which will take place in Otukpo. The winner of the Flight FC vs Idoma United fixture will meet them in the decider.
FA Chairman, Chief Barrister Paul Edeh, lauded Lobi Stars for returning their home matches to Makurdi after four years. He urged stability in club leadership and emphasized football as a shared enterprise reflecting Benue’s pride. Edeh also highlighted initiatives to strengthen grassroots football, including an NLO centre in Makurdi and scholarships for local coaches, including former Lobi Stars coach Tar Akombo.
Lobi Stars’ Secretary, Terzungwe Chugh, called for a media-friendly final venue to boost coverage. Coaches, led by Mark Imenger, honoured Edeh for supporting grassroots development, crowning him “Benue Football Emancipator.”
“Football in Benue thrives when we work together. Stability and unity are key,” Edeh said, forgiving past critics and appealing for cohesion.
The winner of the Federation Cup will take home ₦1 million, with ₦500,000 for second place and ₦300,000 for third. Attention now turns to the decisive clash as Lobi Stars prepare to defend their title.
