In a statement issued on Saturday, May 2, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Deborah Aber, the government said Dr. Ode died after a brief illness. His death was described as sudden, throwing the state civil service and the wider public into mourning.
The government paid tribute to the late official, describing him as an “impeccable technocrat” and a highly respected administrator. According to the statement, Dr. Ode was known for his professionalism, dedication, and commitment to strengthening governance systems in the state.
“His hard work, brilliance, and immense contributions to the State Civil Service will forever be remembered,” the statement read.
Dr. Ode served as Head of Service until his death and was considered a central figure in the implementation of public service reforms in Benue State.
