The Benue State Police Command has announced the appointment of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Orchia Peter Aondongu as the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) following approval by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The appointment was announced in an official statement issued by the Command on Thursday.
According to the statement, DSP Aondongu was commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on 19 December 2019 after completing a five-year cadet programme at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting.
The Command said he has served in several operational and administrative roles, including attachments and crime investigation appointments in Nasarawa State, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in Benue State, and most recently Divisional Police Officer of 'C' Division, North Bank, Makurdi.
The statement further noted that the officer has attended professional training in combat operations and media and public relations organised by development partners and other stakeholders.
Commissioner of Police Cletus C.N. Nwadiobu congratulated the newly appointed spokesperson and expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen police-media relations, coordinate public communication effectively and improve public confidence through timely and accurate dissemination of information.
The Command also called on residents, journalists and other stakeholders to continue supporting the Police in its commitment to transparency, accountability and effective service delivery.
The announcement was signed by the outgoing Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
The Police Public Relations Officer serves as the official spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, providing verified information on security operations, investigations, public safety advisories and other policing activities while acting as the primary liaison between the Police, the media and the public.
