A family in Benue State has called for an investigation into an alleged case of sexual abuse involving their 19-year-old daughter and a Catholic priest. The case has drawn attention following the emergence of a pregnancy report, though authorities have not confirmed the allegations.

A family in Benue State has raised alarm over what they describe as an alleged case of sexual abuse involving their 19-year-old daughter and a Catholic priest.

According to the family, the young woman reportedly travelled to Lagos State on February 8, 2026, in the company of the cleric, who was said to have offered to support her education.
Recent developments, including the circulation of an ultrasound report, indicate that the teenager is pregnant, with the scan suggesting a gestational age of about six weeks and five days at the time it was conducted.

Based on standard medical estimates, the report points to a possible conception period around mid-March 2026. The family has questioned the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and is calling for a thorough investigation.

However, there is currently no official confirmation from law enforcement authorities regarding the allegation. Efforts to verify whether a formal complaint has been filed were not immediately successful as of press time.

The Catholic Church authorities in the relevant diocese have also not issued any public statement on the matter.

Medical experts note that gestational timelines derived from ultrasound scans are estimates and cannot independently determine paternity or establish the circumstances leading to a pregnancy.

The case underscores broader concerns about safeguarding and accountability, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for a careful, evidence-based investigation to establish the facts.
