The Catholic Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Rt. Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has issued a strong appeal for peace across Idoma land, Benue State, and Nigeria, warning that continued violence and insecurity are threatening lives, unity, and development.

The bishop made the call during the 2026 Cathedraticum of Otukpo Deanery held at St. Jude’s Parish in Otukpo, where he addressed worshippers on the growing challenges facing communities.

Speaking during the gathering, Bishop Apochi expressed deep concern over the persistent crises affecting many communities across Benue State and other parts of the country.

According to him, the escalating insecurity has led to the loss of innocent lives, displacement of families, and disruption of normal life in many areas.

He stressed that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development and urged citizens, leaders, and community stakeholders to work together to restore harmony.
“Peace is not optional. It is the only path to stability and progress,” the bishop emphasised.

Beyond security concerns, Bishop Apochi also called on Christians and citizens to take politics seriously and participate responsibly in the democratic process.

He cautioned voters against accepting money, food items, or other inducements from politicians during elections, warning that such practices often produce incompetent leadership.

According to him, politics should serve as a tool for development, justice, and unity, not division or manipulation.
The cleric urged voters to prioritise competence, integrity, and vision when choosing leaders.

In his spiritual message, Bishop Apochi reminded the congregation that genuine worship goes beyond material offerings.

He urged Christians to focus on building a sincere relationship with God, stressing that true devotion begins with a transformed heart and righteous living.

The bishop encouraged the faithful to demonstrate their faith through love, integrity, and commitment to the common good.

The bishop’s message combined a strong call for peace, responsible citizenship, and deeper spiritual commitment.

He challenged communities across Nigeria to reject violence, resist political manipulation, and work collectively for a more stable and prosperous society.

His remarks come at a time when concerns over insecurity and political accountability remain key national issues across the country.
