CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiogbu has officially assumed duty as the 44th Commissioner of Police in Benue State. The appointment was announced by the Benue State Police Command on June 5, 2026, following his assumption of office a day earlier.

The new commissioner has assured residents of his commitment to proactive policing, crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.

The Benue State Police Command has announced that CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiogbu has officially assumed duty as the 44th Commissioner of Police in the state.

According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, on Friday, June 5, 2026, the new commissioner formally took over leadership of the command on June 4, 2026.

CP Nwadiogbu, an indigene of Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He has served in various operational, investigative, administrative and command capacities across the country during his more than three decades in the force.

A distinguished academic and police administrator, the commissioner holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as Master's and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in International Relations from the University of Uyo. He is also a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association.

Throughout his career, CP Nwadiogbu has served in several key positions, including Divisional Police Officer in multiple divisions across Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, State Commander of the Federal Highway Patrol in Akwa Ibom State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Cross River State Command, and Area Commander in Okigwe, Imo State.

He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Taraba State Command and Commissioner of Police in charge of Courses and Training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, he was the Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, where he reportedly played a significant role in the training and mentorship of cadet officers.

Upon assumption of duty, CP Nwadiogbu assured residents of Benue State of his unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and community partnership.

He stated that the command under his leadership would remain focused on combating crime and criminality while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, community stakeholders and law-abiding citizens.

The commissioner also called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance public safety and effective policing across the state.

The Benue State Police Command welcomed the new commissioner and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and quality service delivery in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
