A public commentator, Comrade Sendiyol Elijah Fall, has criticized recent claims by the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula, regarding improvements in security and reductions in the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
Fall described the remarks as inconsistent with conditions in several communities, arguing that many residents continue to face insecurity and displacement across parts of Benue State.
Comrade Sendiyol Elijah Fall has criticized statements made by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, Mr. Tersoo Kula, concerning the security situation and the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
Kula had reportedly stated during a television appearance that insecurity in Benue had reduced significantly and that the population of IDPs, particularly at the Adeke camp, had fallen to below 1,000.
Reacting in a statement, Fall argued that the claims do not reflect the realities being experienced in several parts of the state. According to him, communities in Agatu, Ado, Logo, Guma and parts of Makurdi continue to experience security challenges, while many families remain displaced from their homes.
The commentator questioned the basis of the assessment, maintaining that numerous communities are still grappling with the effects of insecurity and that some villages remain largely deserted.
Fall further alleged that some government spokespersons were presenting an overly optimistic picture of the situation rather than highlighting the challenges faced by affected residents. He argued that such narratives could undermine public confidence if they are perceived as disconnected from realities on the ground.
The critic also referenced earlier commitments made by the current administration regarding the return of displaced persons to their ancestral homes. According to him, many citizens remain in displacement camps despite expectations that resettlement efforts would progress more rapidly.
He called for greater transparency, competent leadership and sustained efforts to address insecurity and humanitarian concerns affecting communities across the state.
The remarks add to ongoing public discussions surrounding security, displacement and the welfare of internally displaced persons in Benue State.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from Mr. Kula specifically addressing the criticism. Independent verification of the competing claims regarding security trends and IDP figures remains necessary.
