Residents of Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State have called on the state government to urgently deploy its security surveillance drones following a recent attack in Odo-Ere that reportedly claimed the life of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Mr. Ayo Olukotun. The incident has renewed concerns over security challenges in the area and intensified demands for stronger protective measures.

Residents of Yagba West Local Government Area are urging the Kogi State Government to deploy surveillance drones launched earlier this year as part of efforts to combat insecurity across the state.

The call follows a recent attack in Odo-Ere community that reportedly resulted in the death of NSCDC officer Ayo Olukotun. Community members say the incident highlights the need for more proactive security measures, particularly the use of technology-driven surveillance systems in vulnerable communities and forest corridors.

According to residents, the surveillance drones were introduced by the state government to improve intelligence gathering, monitor security threats, and support rapid response operations against criminal activities such as banditry and kidnapping.

Following the attack, community members questioned whether the technology has been effectively deployed in areas experiencing persistent security concerns. They argue that enhanced aerial surveillance could assist security agencies in detecting suspicious movements and responding more quickly to threats.

The incident has further heightened concerns about the safety of residents and security personnel operating in the area. Community leaders and residents are calling for immediate intervention by government authorities and security agencies to strengthen security architecture across Yagba West.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement confirming operational details regarding the deployment of the surveillance drones in the affected area had been made available.
