Gunmen reportedly ambushed security operatives attached to Operation Rainbow along Gagshi Road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday, killing one security personnel.

In a separate incident, three civilians were reportedly killed at Rakok, also known as Kafi Abu, in the same local government area.

The two incidents, according to separate community and security sources, bring the reported death toll to four, amid renewed attacks and growing security concerns in parts of Barkin Ladi.

A security operative, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the ambush involving the Operation Rainbow team and said one personnel was killed in the incident.

According to the operative, the attack occurred at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
No further details were immediately available on whether other members of the security team were injured or on the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The President of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, also confirmed that an ambush had occurred, saying he narrowly escaped being caught up in the incident.

Mwantiri expressed concern over what he described as an escalation of the security situation, particularly the reported occurrence of attacks during the day.

He appealed to security personnel and other relevant authorities to remain vigilant and continue efforts to protect residents and restore peace in affected communities.

Three civilians reportedly killed at funeral
Meanwhile, a community source, Lawrence Gyang, reported a separate attack at Rakok, also known as Kafi Abu.

Gyang alleged that three people — one man and two unidentified women — were killed in broad daylight while attending the funeral of two people who had reportedly been killed the previous day while travelling to Gashish District.

According to him, the victims were among mourners who had gathered for the funeral when the incident occurred.

The identities of the three reported victims were not immediately available, and the account had not been independently verified at the time of filing this report.

The latest incidents follow a series of attacks reported in parts of Barkin Ladi and neighbouring communities in recent days, heightening concerns among residents and community leaders.

The reported killing of the Operation Rainbow personnel and the three civilians occurred as authorities face renewed pressure to strengthen security and protect communities affected by recurring violence.
