Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed four persons, including a pregnant woman, in an attack on a mining site in Plateau State. The incident, which occurred in Mazat community of Barkin Ladi LGA, also left four others injured.
At least four people have been confirmed dead following an armed attack on a mining site in Mazat community, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday, when gunmen invaded the area and opened fire on individuals engaged in mining activities. Four others sustained injuries and are said to be receiving treatment.
A community member, Amos Davou, who spoke to Benue Info-pedia, confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers operated without resistance during the assault.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association has condemned the killings, describing the incident as “barbaric and senseless.”
In a statement issued in Jos, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, expressed deep sorrow over the attack and raised concerns over escalating insecurity in the region.
The association also highlighted the destruction of farmlands in Jol village, Riyom Local Government Area, warning that continued attacks on agricultural communities could threaten food security and worsen economic hardship for rural residents.
“The destruction of crops at the onset of the farming season is particularly alarming,” the group noted, adding that such incidents could have long-term implications on livelihoods.
They called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation, apprehend those responsible, and ensure swift justice.
Condolences were extended to the families of the victims, while prayers were offered for the recovery of those injured.
