The Kogi State Police Command has introduced a new identification system for commercial motorcycle operators aimed at enhancing security across the state. Beginning July 1, 2026, all Okada riders will be required to wear reflective jackets bearing serial numbers and carry valid identification cards while operating.

The initiative, according to the police, is designed to improve rider identification and prevent criminals from using motorcycles to evade detection.

The Kogi State Police Command has announced a new identification and tracking measure for commercial motorcycle operators across the state.
Under the directive, which takes effect on July 1, 2026, all commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, must wear reflective jackets carrying unique serial numbers and possess valid identification cards while operating.

The reflective jackets will be colour-coded according to the state's three senatorial districts:
Yellow – Kogi Central
Blue – Kogi West
Red – Kogi East

Police authorities said the policy is intended to strengthen security surveillance, improve the identification of commercial riders, and make it more difficult for criminal elements to conceal their activities using motorcycles.

The command has directed all divisional police formations across the state to ensure strict compliance with the new regulations.

At the same time, police leadership warned officers involved in the enforcement process against extortion, intimidation, or harassment of riders, emphasizing that the exercise must be carried out professionally and within the law.

Authorities also stated that riders who fail to comply with the directive risk arrest and possible impoundment of their motorcycles until they meet the stipulated requirements.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and tackle crimes often associated with the use of motorcycles in parts of the country.
