There was panic and confusion in Gbajimba, headquarters of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, as suspected armed attackers reportedly invaded the community late Friday night, unleashing violence on residents.

It was a night of terror for residents of Gbajimba in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, following a reported attack by suspected armed men believed to be linked to the ongoing Gbaa-Ifi land dispute.

The incident, which reportedly occurred at about 10 p.m., threw the community into chaos as gun-wielding assailants stormed parts of the area, sending residents fleeing for safety.
Sources within the community alleged that the attackers were affiliated with the Unyande group and operated under the leadership of one Senti, popularly known as “Ghana U.”

Eyewitnesses said the attackers moved in a coordinated manner, targeting specific locations and individuals. In one particularly shocking incident, a resident was reportedly attacked with arrows, locally referred to as Igba-Akula Adugh in what appeared to be a calculated attempt on his life.

The victim’s condition could not be immediately confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

Residents described the attack as devastating, noting that the community has been on edge due to the protracted dispute over the ownership and control of Gbaa-Ifi.
“This is becoming unbearable. People can no longer sleep with both eyes closed,” a local resident, who pleaded anonymity, said.

As of press time, there was no official confirmation from security agencies, but concerned residents have called for urgent intervention to forestall further bloodshed.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over recurring communal clashes in parts of Benue State, where unresolved land disputes have continued to trigger violence.
