Fear and uncertainty have gripped several communities in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State following a series of attacks allegedly carried out by suspected bandits, leaving five people dead, several others injured, and hundreds displaced.

According to local accounts gathered by correspondents, the affected communities include Kunini, Jimlari, Garin-Magaji, Donnada, and Garin-Dogo.

The attacks reportedly occurred between June 30 and July 27, 2026, during incidents linked to kidnapping attempts and armed attacks.

Among those affected was Jauro Tace, the village head of Garin-Magaji, who was reportedly abducted at gunpoint. Community sources said the traditional leader was later released after a ransom payment, although the claim could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

Residents who spoke about the situation expressed concern over the continued insecurity and the growing humanitarian impact on affected communities.

A correspondent’s visit to the area indicated that many residents, particularly members of Fulani communities, had left their homes and relocated to Garin-Dogo, the headquarters of Garin-Dogo Ward, for safety.

The extent of the displacement and the immediate needs of affected families remain unclear.
