Three suspects have been arrested in connection with separate criminal incidents allegedly committed in Tiv communities in Taraba State on Monday, June 9, 2026.

The arrests followed reports of an attempted sexual assault in Akanyi, a Tiv settlement in Kofai Amadu, and a separate theft incident in Tyogba, a deserted Tiv community under Tor-Tse.

According to community sources, the first incident occurred in the morning when unidentified assailants allegedly attempted to sexually assault a young woman in Akanyi. The victim and her mother reportedly resisted the attack.

Sources said the confrontation turned violent, with the mother allegedly sustaining serious injuries, including the loss of two fingers after being attacked with a sharp object. Despite their injuries, the women reportedly resisted the assailants, forcing them to flee the scene.

Later the same day, members of the Fulani/Tiv Peace Committee reportedly mobilized in response to information about the alleged attack and began searching for the suspects.
Community members said the search initially yielded no results in Akanyi. However, upon reaching Tyogba, a deserted Tiv settlement under Tor-Tse, members of the search team reportedly noticed two motorcycles parked within the community, prompting further investigation.

The search party allegedly discovered three individuals in possession of burglary-proof door protectors and other valuables believed to have been removed from abandoned properties in the area.

The suspects, identified by community sources as two Fulani men and one Chamba/Jukun man, were apprehended and subsequently handed over to the police for investigation.

Residents commended the intervention of the Fulani/Tiv Peace Committee, stating that the swift response contributed to the suspects' arrest and prevented a possible escape.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had not released an official statement confirming the allegations or providing details of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding both incidents and determine whether the suspects will face prosecution.
