Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a pastor and his wife at the Seme border in Lagos State after uncovering 11 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis concealed in their vehicle.

The agency said the suspects, identified as Afolabi Hodonu, 45, and his wife, Success, 35, were apprehended on April 2 at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Seme border corridor.

Hodonu is said to be a cleric of the Celestial Church of Christ, Agonvi Sea Beach, Badagry.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the couple was intercepted while travelling in a Honda Pilot SUV.

He disclosed that a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the illicit substance hidden in specially modified compartments.

Babafemi said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the agency to clamp down on drug trafficking routes along the Lagos border axis.

He added that the operation followed a similar arrest at the same checkpoint.
A suspect, Sunday Samuel, 35, described as a fake security operative, was earlier apprehended on March 30 while transporting 24.5 kilogrammes of cannabis from the Seme border to Lagos.

“The arrest of the couple followed the apprehension of a fake security agent, Sunday Samuel, at the same checkpoint while conveying 24.5kg of skunk from Seme border to Lagos,” Babafemi stated.
