A fresh wave of violence has hit Benue State as suspected armed herders attacked Agbaaye village in Buruku Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and another injured.
The incident, which has heightened fears among residents, occurred on March 26, prompting a swift response from security forces under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).
According to a military source, troops of Sector 1 OPWS, working alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, acted on credible intelligence and mobilised to the troubled community at about 9:30 a.m.
However, by the time security personnel arrived at the scene, the attackers had already fled, leaving behind casualties and panic in the village.
The source confirmed that no direct contact was made with the assailants during the operation, raising concerns about the continued threat posed by armed groups operating in the area.
The latest attack adds to the growing insecurity in parts of Benue, a state frequently hit by clashes linked to suspected herders, with residents calling for stronger security presence and faster response times.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on further actions, but locals fear more attacks if urgent measures are not taken.
