The Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has denied allegations linking its members to the recent attack that claimed lives in Otukpo-Nobi, Otukpo Local Government Area, calling for a thorough investigation by security agencies before responsibility is assigned.
The Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has denied any involvement of its members in the recent attack and killing of residents in Otukpo-Nobi, Otukpo Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the association, MACBAN said all Fulani residents in Otukpo and surrounding communities had been forcefully evicted from the area sometime last year, arguing that its members were therefore not responsible for the latest violence.
According to the association, the eviction affected its community leader in Otukpo, Chairman Yenusa, who was compelled to leave Benue State after attempts to restore peace failed.
The association further stated that Otukpo-Nobi and neighbouring communities, including Okete, Amla-Icho and Otada, have experienced longstanding communal disputes, cautioning against attributing the latest attack to any particular group before investigations are concluded.
MACBAN also rejected reports suggesting the attack was carried out in retaliation for the recent killing of its Benue State Chairman, Ardo Risku Mohammed.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the State Secretary, Galma, warned against premature conclusions, saying such claims could undermine ongoing investigations by the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
He appealed to members of the association and the general public to remain peaceful, law-abiding and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.
Galma also urged security agencies to monitor social media platforms for inflammatory comments and unverified allegations, warning that misinformation could worsen the security situation and hinder peace efforts.
The association expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attack and prayed for lasting peace across Otukpo and Benue State.
The statement comes amid heightened security concerns following the deadly attack in Otukpo-Nobi. Security agencies are continuing investigations into the incident, and no official investigation has yet publicly identified those responsible.
