Residents of Owukpa community in Benue State have expressed concern over the condition of the major road linking the area to Okpoga and Otukpo, describing it as deteriorated and difficult to access. The complaints were accompanied by calls for intervention over reported electricity problems, including the absence of functional transformers in the community.

Fresh concerns have emerged from Owukpa community in Benue State over poor infrastructure and electricity challenges reportedly affecting residents for several years.

In a public statement circulating online, HRM Mary Ene Joseph, identified as the Queen of Idoma Culture and Traditions (ICAT), appealed to government authorities and political representatives to urgently address the condition of the major road connecting Owukpa to Okpoga and Otukpo.

According to the statement, the road serves as a critical transport route for residents and commuters within the area but has allegedly remained in poor condition for a prolonged period.

The statement also raised concerns over electricity supply in the community. It was alleged that many residents in Owukpa have been unable to enjoy stable electricity due to the lack of transformers.

The appeal specifically mentioned Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, urging the state government to intervene. APC chieftain Austin Agada and Senator Abba Moro were also called upon to support efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and electricity supply in the area.

Residents say the road and power challenges have affected movement, economic activities, and daily living conditions within the community.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Benue State Government or the political figures mentioned regarding the concerns raised.

The development reflects growing public complaints in parts of Benue State over infrastructure deficits, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities where access roads and electricity distribution remain major concerns.
