The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed that gunmen abducted the principal of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member and four students during the ongoing NECO examination in Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday evening.

Gunmen attacked Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday, July 14, while students were writing the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.

According to the Kogi State Police Command, the attackers abducted the school principal, one NECO ad hoc staff member and four students during the incident, which occurred at about 5:25 p.m.
The Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Salisu Oyiza, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

She said a joint security team comprising the police and other security agencies immediately commenced search-and-rescue operations after the attack.

The police further disclosed that one of the abducted students has already been rescued, while efforts continue to secure the safe release of the remaining victims and arrest those responsible.

The statement also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, alongside the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser, was heading to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

Police said a more comprehensive statement would be released after additional verified information becomes available.
