A violent clash between farmers and herders in Pangri, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, has left one person dead and more than 10 others injured. The violence reportedly followed a dispute over alleged cattle grazing on farmland, which later escalated into attacks and reprisals before security operatives restored calm.

One person has been confirmed dead while more than 10 others sustained injuries following a violent farmer-herder crisis in Pangri community, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to reports, the incident began after a herder allegedly grazed cattle on a farmer's land, leading to a dispute between the parties.

The matter was reportedly taken to a nearby police checkpoint for intervention. During efforts to address the complaint, an argument allegedly broke out between the herder and police officers. Reports further claim that a police officer was attacked with a cutlass, prompting another armed officer to fire what was described as a distress shot, which fatally struck the herder.

The incident reportedly triggered reprisals by suspected Fulani youths targeting Tiv residents in Pangri village, leaving more than 10 people injured.

Police authorities said security personnel have brought the situation under control and that normalcy has largely returned to the affected community. Those injured are receiving medical treatment at Bali General Hospital.

Authorities are yet to release the identity of the deceased or provide a comprehensive breakdown of the casualties. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to continue.
