Stakeholders from the Sankera axis of Benue State have taken a major political decision ahead of the 2027 general elections, withdrawing from the senatorial contest and returning the seat to Kwande. The group also endorsed Tyolumun Thomas Unongo following wide consultations across key political blocs.

In what appears to be a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders from the Sankera axis of Benue State have announced their withdrawal from the senatorial race.

The stakeholders declared that they are returning what they described as a “loaned Senate seat” back to Kwande, signalling a shift in political understanding within the district.

As part of the development, the group openly endorsed Tyolumun Thomas Unongo as their preferred candidate for the forthcoming Senate contest.

The endorsement reportedly followed a series of consultations across major political blocs, including Sankera, which covers Ukum, Logo, and Katsina-Ala Local Government Areas, as well as the Jechira bloc comprising Vandeikya and Konshisha.

Unongo’s engagements across the district have seen him meet key stakeholders, including elders from Kwande and Ushongo, who accompanied him during parts of the consultation process.

Although no formal electoral contest has been concluded, political observers say the endorsement represents an early consolidation of support that could reshape the 2027 senatorial race dynamics in Benue State.
