Suspected bandits fleeing military operations attacked Tarveshimam community in Ananum, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State on Sunday evening, burning houses and sparking panic among residents.
Tarveshimam, a Tiv Christian settlement along the Mararaba Ichen–Donga Gaba road, has faced rising security concerns in recent times.
The attack reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m. after bandits, said to have been overpowered by the Nigerian Army elsewhere, stormed the community.
A resident, Mr. Terwase, who survived the incident, said he was chased with a cutlass but managed to escape unharmed.
“They pursued me in my house, but I escaped,” Terwase recounted.
No casualties were recorded as of press time, but at least four houses were destroyed by fire.
