Three women abducted during a March 22, 2026 attack on an ECWA Church in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been rescued after spending 105 days in captivity.
The victims were among eight worshippers kidnapped when armed men stormed the church during a Sunday worship service, an incident that sparked fear and uncertainty across the Omugo community.
According to reports, the women were rescued during sustained security operations carried out by a joint team comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and local vigilantes.
Their release has been welcomed by residents after more than three months in captivity. However, the community continues to mourn the reported deaths of the remaining five worshippers, who allegedly lost their lives while being held by the kidnappers.
Confirming the development, Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson, President of the Omugo Development Union, thanked the security agencies for their efforts in securing the victims' release. He also expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy for the entire community.
The rescue represents another step in ongoing security operations aimed at tackling kidnapping and improving public safety in affected communities across Kwara State.
