Troops of Sector 5 under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), working with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), have reportedly intercepted 52 cattle following a distress call over alleged farmland destruction in Mai Jakarta Village, Mbar District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the response took place at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the sources, troops searching the area found 52 unattended cattle grazing, with no herders present at the time.

The cattle were subsequently moved to a secure location pending efforts to identify their owners and determine the appropriate next steps.

However, it has not been established from the information available that the intercepted cattle were responsible for the reported destruction of farmland.

Investigations are reportedly underway to determine whether there was a connection between the livestock and the alleged damage, while authorities continue efforts to identify individuals linked to the incident.

Farmer-herder disputes in parts of Plateau State have frequently involved competing claims over farmland, grazing activities, livestock movement and access to natural resources.
