The company says four passengers were hospitalised after the September 21 collision, while investigations by the police and FRSC are ongoing.
Victoria Travels has confirmed that one of its buses was involved in a road traffic collision at Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on Monday, September 21, 2026, leaving a Transport Officer dead and four passengers hospitalised.
In a statement issued by the company's management, Victoria Travels said Bus24, operating its 8:30 a.m. service from Abuja Area 1 to Gboko, was involved in the collision with a truck at about 11:21 a.m.
The company said six passengers were on board the bus at the time of the incident.
According to the statement, two passengers were able to walk away from the crash, while four were taken to hospital. Two of the hospitalised passengers were discharged the same day, while the remaining two were transferred to Abuja for further medical attention.
The company identified its deceased Transport Officer as Mr Jacob Gbanger, also known as Jacob G, who was "commanding the bus" when the collision occurred.
Victoria Travels said it first informed Gbanger's family about his death before making a public statement.
"Our hearts go out to the injured passengers and their families, and especially to the family, friends and loved ones of our departed colleague," the company said.
Cause of crash yet to be established
Victoria Travels said the circumstances surrounding the collision remain subject to investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The company said preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses indicated that the collision occurred at a road junction shortly before the Akwanga bypass along the Keffi–Akwanga road.
It further said eyewitnesses reported that a truck crossed from the Abuja-facing lane into the Akwanga-facing lane before colliding with the Victoria Travels bus.
However, the company stressed that the relevant authorities should establish the facts and circumstances of the crash.
The eyewitness account therefore remains a preliminary account and should not be treated as a confirmed finding on responsibility for the collision until the ongoing investigations are concluded.
Company promises safety review
Victoria Travels described the incident as a major setback for the company and said it would review its operations and safety controls following the crash.
The company said that since commencing operations in 2021, it had not recorded an injury involving a passenger or Transport Officer travelling on one of its buses before the incident.
It said the crash had reinforced the need to continually review transport safety systems and pledged to introduce any additional measures considered necessary to reduce the risk of a recurrence.
The company also appealed for prayers and support for the injured passengers, the family of the deceased Transport Officer and others affected by the incident.
As of the time of publication, the official findings of the Nigeria Police Force and FRSC regarding the cause of the collision and any determination of responsibility had not been provided in the statement supplied by Victoria Travels.
Benue Info-pedia will update this report if verified information from the relevant authorities becomes available.
