An 11-year-old orphan, identified as Linda Emberga, was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse by her aunt's husband after being accused of stealing ₦1,000 in Benue State, according to a Facebook post shared on Friday by resident Michelle Akuhwa.

A Facebook post by Michelle Akuhwa on Friday, July 31, 2026, has drawn attention to the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old orphan identified as Linda Emberga.

According to the post, the child was accused of stealing ₦1,000 and was allegedly beaten and tied to a bench by her aunt's husband. Michelle Akuhwa said the girl was found in the early hours of Friday crying for help while restrained.

The post further claimed that Linda's aunt is her elder sister.
Michelle Akuhwa said the child has since been taken into care while investigations continue.

As of the time of publication, Benue Info-pedia has not independently verified the allegations, and there has been no public statement from the police or relevant child protection authorities regarding the incident.

Efforts should be made to obtain comments from the Benue State Police Command, the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, medical personnel treating the child, and the accused or their representatives to ensure balanced reporting.

Child rights advocates have consistently stressed that allegations of theft involving minors should never result in violence or cruel treatment, noting that Nigerian law provides protections against child abuse.

Child abuse remains a significant child protection concern in Nigeria. Cases involving corporal punishment, neglect, and physical assault periodically emerge, prompting calls for stronger enforcement of child protection laws and greater public awareness.
