At least seven people have been killed and six others injured following a violent clash between farmers and suspected Fulani men in Lanzai Community, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The violence reportedly escalated into a reprisal attack that left about 50 huts destroyed before security operatives restored calm to the area.
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of seven persons and injuries to six others following a clash involving farmers and suspected Fulani men in Lanzai Community, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the incident reportedly began when suspected Fulani men allegedly attacked farmers working on their farmland in the community.
Police said the situation later escalated when youths from Lanzai Community reportedly launched a reprisal attack on Dosho Village, a Fulani settlement within the area. During the attack, about 50 huts and other properties were allegedly set ablaze.
The Command stated that security personnel were immediately deployed to the affected communities to contain the violence and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
According to police authorities, calm has since been restored, while additional security operatives remain stationed in the area to maintain peace and forestall any renewed hostilities.
The police further disclosed that an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible for the violence.
Farmer-herder conflicts have remained a recurring security challenge in several parts of Nigeria, often resulting in casualties, displacement of residents and destruction of property. Authorities have repeatedly called for peaceful dispute resolution and cooperation among affected communities.
