The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of Blessing Moshood, a 29-year-old graduate of Sociology from Kogi State University, whose body was reportedly discovered in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja.
According to family members, the deceased left home on Thursday evening after receiving a phone call and was later reported missing before her body was identified.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is underway following the death of Blessing Moshood, a 29-year-old graduate of Sociology from Kogi State University, whose body was reportedly found in a canal in Jikwoyi area of Abuja.
According to reports, Blessing left her family residence around 8 p.m. on Thursday after speaking with someone on the phone.
Her sister, Abigail Moshood, told Daily Trust that the deceased later contacted the family and said she intended returning briefly to pick up a phone charger she had forgotten at home.
However, concerns grew after she failed to return home and relatives were unable to reach her the following day.
Abigail said the family later heard reports about the discovery of a woman’s body inside a canal in Jikwoyi. She noted that details about the hairstyle of the deceased matched her sister’s appearance.
According to her account, the family also learnt that officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the body to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
She further stated that she visited the police station where officers reportedly showed her photographs through which the deceased was identified.
Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
Authorities are yet to release further details regarding the cause of death or possible suspects as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has sparked concerns over public safety and renewed calls for thorough investigations into violent crimes and disappearances.
