The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded its Benue State Congress, electing new executives across all tiers in what party officials described as a peaceful and coordinated exercise. Former lawmaker Samson Okwu emerged as state chairman, setting the stage for a new leadership cycle.
The congress forms part of ADC’s internal democratic process to reposition its structure ahead of future elections in Benue State. Party stakeholders have recently emphasized unity and grassroots mobilization as key priorities.
Okwu, a former three-term member of the House of Representatives, will lead the State Working Committee for the next four years.
The exercise adopted a consensus approach, which Congress Committee Chairman, Shola Ojoh, said helped avoid disputes and ensured a smooth process.
Delegates from all 23 local government areas participated, alongside aspirants for various political offices, signaling broad engagement within the party.
Security agencies, including the DSS, as well as committees led by Jacob Ogwuche (screening) and Nelson Ogbu (appeal), oversaw the process to ensure transparency and order.
Senator Orker-Jev called for unity and discipline among members, noting that the party is entering a phase of renewed growth.
Meanwhile, Alex Adum dismissed attempts to disrupt the congress, expressing confidence in the legitimacy of the new leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Okwu pledged to strengthen the party’s structure and uphold its ideals.
Party leaders say the peaceful outcome positions the ADC for stronger electoral participation. The focus now shifts to consolidation, can the new leadership translate internal stability into electoral gains?
