Suspected armed herdsmen on Thursday evening attacked Olegabulu community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, killing a husband and his wife. Several other residents were reportedly injured and are currently receiving treatment.
Tension has escalated following reports of possible fresh attacks in nearby areas.
Suspected armed herdsmen on Thursday, April 23, 2026, launched a deadly attack on Olegabulu, a community near Ogbaulu in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving two persons dead and several others injured.
The victims, identified as a husband and his wife, were reportedly killed during the evening assault, which has further heightened security concerns in the area.
According to Anthony Ikwulono, an unspecified number of residents sustained serious injuries and were said to be in critical condition as of the time of filing this report.
Local intelligence also suggests that the attackers may be planning further assaults, with nearby Atakpa community reportedly under threat, raising fears of continued violence.
Residents have expressed growing anxiety over the recurring attacks in Agatu, a region that has witnessed repeated clashes in recent years. People are calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to prevent further loss of lives and property.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident. However, concerned stakeholders are urging swift deployment of security personnel to restore calm and forestall any imminent attacks.
