Schools and communities across Benue State on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, marked this year’s Children’s Day celebration with activities held in Gboko, Jato-Aka, Vandeikya and Katsina-Ala.

Government Secondary School (GSS) Gboko was among participating schools, joining the event at the JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko alongside other institutions.

Schools across Benue State on Wednesday joined the nationwide commemoration of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration with various activities aimed at promoting children’s welfare, inclusion and development.

At the JS Tarka Stadium, Gboko, staff and students of Government Secondary School (GSS) Gboko participated in the event alongside other schools within and outside the local government area.

According to information made available by the school, GSS Gboko took part in the celebration under the leadership of Principal Mr. Sase Andrew Terfa, with students reportedly displaying discipline, coordination and enthusiasm throughout the activities.

The event featured march past displays, entertainment and other activities organised to celebrate children and encourage social interaction among students.

Members of staff reportedly described the outing as educational and inspiring, noting that participation in extracurricular activities contributes to students’ social development and overall learning experience.

Beyond Gboko, Children’s Day celebrations were also held in other parts of Benue State.

In Jato-Aka, nursery, primary and secondary schools assembled at the NKST Pilot Primary School playground for activities including march pasts, cultural dances, relay races, football and handball competitions.

Celebrations were similarly reported at the Vandeikya Township Stadium in Vandeikya and at the Chief Emmanuel Akume Atongo Township Stadium in Katsina-Ala, where schools and children gathered for the annual event.

Meanwhile, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in a Children’s Day message signed by Tersoo Kula, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing what he described as a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for children.

The governor stated that the administration remains focused on education, child welfare and creating opportunities for children across the state.

Children’s Day is celebrated annually in Nigeria on May 27 to honour children and promote their welfare, education and development.
