OTUKPO — The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Prof. Francis Aba Uba, on Monday, April 27, 2026, led the institution’s top management on an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects as part of preparations for the accreditation of its MBBS clinical programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The inspection, which covered multiple project sites across the university’s campuses, is also linked to the institution’s planned relocation to its permanent site at Akwete-Akpa.
During the visit, Prof. Uba emphasised the urgency of completing the projects, noting that the university is working within strict timelines to meet accreditation requirements. He directed contractors to accelerate work and ensure delivery within three weeks.
According to a statement from the university’s Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, the Vice-Chancellor interacted with consultants, contractors, and site engineers, reiterating the need for quality and timely execution.
The inspection team included the Registrar, Mr. Michael Ogiji; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Friday Okibe; Bursar, Dr. Paul Akpa; Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Edwin Ogwuche; Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Jonah Akogwu; and other senior officials.
At the take-off campus in Otada, facilities inspected included the Human Anatomy and Anatomical Pathology Laboratory, as well as the Human Physiology and Pharmacology units.
At the Akwete-Akpa permanent site, the team reviewed progress on the gatehouse, perimeter fencing, access roads, administrative building, College of Medicine complex, academic departments, hostels, lecture halls, library, and staff quarters.
The inspection extended to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo (FUHSTHO), where projects such as the Multi-User Central Teaching and Research Laboratory (Phase I), Students’ Resource Centre, and the morgue were assessed.
University officials disclosed that some facilities, including the gatehouse and female hostels, have been completed, while several others are nearing completion, with access roads reportedly at advanced stages.
The development follows an earlier inspection visit by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Togo Echono, on April 4, 2026, where similar projects were reviewed.
The ongoing infrastructure drive is part of efforts to position FUHSO for full accreditation of its medical programme and strengthen its capacity for training and healthcare delivery.
