Born to Abraham and Grace Tyoor as the first of three children and the family's only daughter, Mavis demonstrated leadership from an early age.

She began her academic journey at ECWA Nursery and Primary School, Makurdi, where she graduated as Head Girl, a role that reflected her leadership abilities and dedication.

She later attended Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, where she once again emerged as Head Girl while graduating as the Best Arts Student, further establishing a record of outstanding academic achievement.

Driven by a passion for the legal profession, she proceeded to the erstwhile Benue State University, where she earned a Second Class Upper Division (2:1) in Law.

Her pursuit of excellence did not end there. At the Nigerian Law School, she distinguished herself academically by graduating with a First Class—one of the institution's highest honours.

On 10 July 2026, she was formally called to the Nigerian Bar, marking the beginning of her professional legal career.

In recognition of her exceptional academic performance, she was also awarded the prestigious Director General's Prize, one of the Law School's most distinguished academic honours.
