Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Ayingba, Kogi State, has confirmed the arrest of two students in connection with the killing of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Ocholi Solomon. The university said the suspects were apprehended by its internal security team shortly after the incident and handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Ayingba, has disclosed that two students have been arrested over the alleged murder of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Ocholi Solomon.
The disclosure was made on Saturday during a condolence visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, to the family of the deceased in Lokoja.
According to a statement issued by the university's spokesperson, Uredo Omale, the suspects were arrested within two hours of the incident by the institution's internal security team before being handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor described the incident as tragic and painful, noting that the development had thrown the university community into mourning.
Ogbo stated that he received news of the incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association at the University of Ibadan.
He said the university was working closely with security agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying all individuals connected to the incident.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the institution's zero-tolerance stance on cultism, violence and criminal activities, adding that efforts had been intensified to improve security on and around campus.
He further disclosed that additional security measures and reforms would be introduced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Ogbo also acknowledged the support of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, traditional rulers and security agencies in maintaining peace and security within the university environment.
Responding on behalf of the family, the deceased's father, Solomon Idachaba, thanked the university management for the condolence visit and commended the swift arrest of the suspects.
He appealed to the authorities to ensure that justice is served.
