MAKURDI, Benue State — The management of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, has suspended Final Year Brethren (FYB) Week and all associated social activities on campus over alleged violations of conditions attached to an earlier approval for the programme.

The decision was conveyed in a memo dated 16 October 2026 and signed by the Dean of Students, Dr. Nelson O. Alyebo.

According to the memo, approval for the Student Union/Final Year Brethren Week had been granted subject to three conditions: responsible conduct in accordance with university rules and regulations, strict observance of decency in dressing, and avoidance of acts capable of bringing the institution into disrepute.

However, the Dean of Students stated that the conditions were “flagrantly violated” during the activities, prompting the suspension.

The memo also stated that students allegedly involved in the reported indecent acts, despite earlier cautions, would be investigated and sanctioned in accordance with university regulations.

The circular was copied to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar; the Chief Security Officer; staff advisers; the Student Union President; and leaders of departmental associations.

The university's action places the conduct of student social activities under renewed scrutiny, particularly regarding compliance with approved conditions and institutional regulations.

However, the memo, as provided, does not specify the particular incidents that constituted the alleged violations, identify the students involved, or indicate how long the suspension will remain in force.

Further clarification from the university would help establish the scope of the suspension, the status of other student activities, and the expected timeline for the investigation.
