The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has indicated its readiness to enter into what it described as “strategic partnerships” with other political parties as part of efforts to unseat Governor Hyacinth Alia in the 2027 governorship election.

The decision emerged after an Expanded State Caucus meeting of the party held in Makurdi and attended by prominent PDP leaders, including former governor Samuel Ortom, the party’s state chairman, Ezekiel Awulu Adaji, and Senate Minority Leader Patrick Abba Moro.

In a statement issued after the meeting by PDP media consultant Bemgba Iortyom, the party said it was open to alliances aimed at achieving political change in the state.

According to the statement, the meeting also received a delegation of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress, including former Attorney-General of the Federation Michael Aondoakaa, Nigerian Shippers’ Council boss Pius Akutah, legal scholar Sebastine Hon, and Federal Housing Authority executive Mathias Byuan.

The APC delegation reportedly sought PDP’s support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

However, the PDP caucus maintained that its central objective remained the removal of Governor Alia from office in 2027, arguing that the move was necessary to address the state’s security and economic challenges.

The party further called on Benue residents to rally behind a bipartisan coalition aimed at what it described as “rescuing the state” during the next election cycle.
