The Governing Council of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi has approved the appointment of Professor Vitalis Torwel as Director of the Centre for Research, Innovation and Grant Management.

The appointment, approved during the Council's 153rd Meeting held on May 13 and 14, 2026, takes effect from May 14, 2026, and will run for an initial period of two years.

The Governing Council of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi has approved the appointment of Professor Vitalis Torwel as Director of the Centre for Research, Innovation and Grant Management.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the appointment was approved during the University's 153rd Governing Council Meeting held on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14, 2026.

The appointment takes effect from May 14, 2026, and is for a period of two years.

The University said the appointment reflects Professor Torwel's extensive academic experience, research credentials and commitment to advancing research and innovation within the institution.

As Director of the Centre for Research, Innovation and Grant Management, Professor Torwel will oversee the administration and strategic direction of the Centre. His responsibilities include promoting research activities, supporting innovation initiatives, strengthening grant acquisition efforts and coordinating programmes that contribute to the University's academic and institutional development.

The new Director will also serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Governors, the Research Development and Training Committee and other committees established under them, performing duties aimed at advancing the Centre's mandate.

University authorities expressed confidence that the appointment will strengthen efforts to build a vibrant research culture, attract competitive research funding, expand collaborative partnerships and enhance academic excellence.

The University community congratulated Professor Torwel on the appointment and wished him success in driving research, innovation and development goals within the institution.
