Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed all political appointees seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 30, 2026, in a move aimed at sustaining governance and ongoing development in the state.

The governor announced the directive last Wednesday during an Iftar with Muslim faithful at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi. The event provided a platform for him to outline his administration’s expectations ahead of the political season.

Alia said early resignation would allow his administration to promptly fill vacant positions and avoid disruptions in governance.

According to him, the measure is necessary to maintain the current pace of development and ensure that public service delivery remains uninterrupted.

He stressed that those with political ambitions should step aside without delay to give room for capable replacements who can continue ongoing projects.

“The earlier those who want to resign tender their letters, the better. It gives me clear direction to get other hands to continue the work,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to development, stating, “When you see roads being fixed and civil servants working happily, that is development. I am determined to do more because that is my covenant with the people.”

He added that nothing would distract his administration from delivering on its mandate to reposition Benue State.
