A violent clash involving female students of Seat of Wisdom Secondary School, Aliade, Benue State, has triggered disciplinary action, with 11 students expelled and extension classes suspended after videos of the incident surfaced online.
The altercation, which reportedly occurred about a week ago, did not take place in the main school premises but in a nearby bush behind the school during extension classes for JSS3 and SS3 students.
According to credible sources, including teachers familiar with the incident, the crisis began when two female students challenged each other to a fight.
They allegedly agreed to leave the school environment and settle the dispute in a secluded area. However, what started as a one-on-one confrontation quickly spiralled out of control as their peer groups joined in.
Witnesses said the situation escalated into a full-blown clash, with students tearing each other’s uniforms, including undergarments, before teachers intervened.
The school management reportedly acted quickly to contain the situation.
Teachers rushed from the staff room to the scene after an alarm was raised and successfully stopped the fight.
In immediate response:
Mobile phones found with students were confiscated and handed over to the police
The school was shut for the day to prevent further unrest
Efforts were made to delete photos and videos from seized devices
Despite these measures, some students fled with their phones, leading to the circulation of disturbing footage on social media.
Sources emphasised that the fight was not one-sided, noting that both principal actors were equally involved.
Observers say the viral images and videos may have been selectively shared, possibly by supporters of one of the students, contributing to widespread misinformation about the incident.
Before the incident gained traction online, the school had already taken disciplinary steps.
Parents of those involved were invited and briefed on the situation. Following the review:
11 students, including the main actors and those who supported or recorded the fight, were expelled
The extension classes where the incident occurred were shut down
Sources confirmed that the affected parents did not challenge the decision but instead expressed disappointment over their children’s conduct.
The expelled students are:
Nyihemba Florence
Kirku Angela
Ada Christiana
Shanna Treasure
Bem Veronica
Akase Rejoice
Joseph Christabel
Doka Lucy
Mlam Felicity
Gbor James
Iornenge Terkaa
Seat of Wisdom Secondary School, Aliade, is widely regarded as a disciplined institution with strong moral standards and a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
Education observers note that while the incident is unfortunate, it reflects broader challenges schools face in managing student behaviour beyond supervised environments.
The incident has also reignited concerns about the rapid spread of unverified information online.
Stakeholders are urging the public to verify facts before sharing content, especially in sensitive cases involving minors, to avoid distorting realities and damaging reputations.
