Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), has formally admitted 9,101 students into its academic community during its 33rd Matriculation Ceremony held at the New Convocation Square.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, described the event as historic, noting that it was his first matriculation ceremony since assuming office on February 10, 2026. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the institution and reaffirmed his commitment to driving excellence and institutional transformation.

Professor Alabar commended the Benue State Governor and Visitor to the University, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for entrusting him with the leadership of the institution. He pledged to run a transparent and purposeful administration anchored on three key priorities: student welfare, staff welfare, and infrastructural development.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university has already taken steps to improve campus conditions, including the inauguration of a Taskforce on Utilities aimed at enhancing water and electricity supply. He also stressed the importance of staff motivation through capacity building, improved working conditions, and timely salary payments.

Providing admission statistics, Professor Alabar disclosed that out of 24,774 applicants, 10,026 candidates were offered admission, while 9,101 completed registration and were successfully matriculated.

He urged the newly admitted students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to academic excellence and good character. He further emphasized that the university maintains academic standards above the national benchmark.

The Vice-Chancellor also warned against social vices, including examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse, stressing that the institution operates a zero-tolerance policy. Students were advised to strictly adhere to the rules outlined in the Students’ Handbook.

He encouraged students to take advantage of available facilities such as the university library, clinic, counselling centres, and innovation hub to enhance their academic journey.

The ceremony featured the formal presentation of matriculating students by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Deans of various faculties, while the Registrar administered the Matriculation Oath.

Professor Alabar concluded by appreciating parents, guardians, and stakeholders for their continued support, calling for sustained collaboration to address funding challenges and foster institutional growth.
