A suspect identified as Akaninyene has been arrested in Creektown, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State following reports linking him to multiple disappearances and killings in the community. Security operatives reportedly uncovered several shallow graves during an operation that led to his arrest, while police say investigations remain ongoing.

Security operatives have arrested a suspect identified as Akaninyene in Creektown, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State over allegations of involvement in multiple killings within the area.

According to reports, the arrest followed intelligence gathered by security agencies regarding the disappearance of several persons in the community. The operation was reportedly carried out by security personnel, including members of the Nigerian Army and tactical special forces, who tracked the suspect to a secluded hut located within a forest in Abanyama, Ukim Ita Community.

Sources said the suspect allegedly attempted to flee after trying to retrieve a weapon from the hideout but was apprehended by security operatives.

During a search of the location, operatives reportedly discovered eight shallow graves containing human remains. Reports further claimed that plantain crops had been planted over the graves in an apparent effort to conceal them.

The suspect was also reported to have made statements during interrogation regarding the killings and the possible involvement of another individual. However, these claims have not been independently verified by authorities.

Community members reportedly became suspicious following an incident said to have occurred on May 26, 2026, when residents allegedly heard cries and signs of a struggle.
Local leaders and youths subsequently alerted security agencies, leading to the operation that resulted in the suspect's arrest.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the incident is still being verified by the police.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not officially confirmed the number of victims, the alleged confession, or other claims circulating about the case. Investigations are ongoing.
