President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed that state governors are the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective states, ending speculation over party leadership following the defection of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri. Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, confirmed Fintiri as the highest-ranking APC member in Adamawa.
The announcement came during a grand rally at Ribadu Square, Adamawa, attended by thousands of APC supporters under the scorching sun. The event also featured ten governors from the All Progressive Governors Forum, led by Hope Uzodimma.
Tinubu’s declaration settles a leadership debate that arose when Fintiri joined the party, previously led in the state by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Plans were also announced to reintegrate Jibrilla Bindow, former ADC Governor, into APC.
VP Shettima addressed the crowd, confirming Fintiri’s leadership role. “Governor Fintiri is now the highest-ranking APC member in Adamawa,” he said.
Hope Uzodimma thanked Adamawa residents for supporting the move, while APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda described Fintiri as “an added asset to the party.”
Governor Fintiri expressed confidence that joining APC would advance development in the state and strengthen Tinubu’s 2027 electoral prospects.
The President’s pronouncement clarifies party hierarchy and positions APC for a stronger showing in the forthcoming Adamawa elections.
