The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday after a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State. Students and staff have been advised to stay indoors amid rising security concerns.
In a statement on Sunday, Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, said the decision followed incidents in a community where many university staff and students reside. The Vice-Chancellor approved the postponement to safeguard lives.
“In view of the fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Anguwan Rukuba, an area that accommodates many staff and students of the university and the tension it has generated, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, be postponed and rescheduled,” the statement read.
The university also urged caution in movements within and outside the campus. “Members are strongly advised to avoid coming out very early in the morning and to report any sign of security breach to the University Security Division,” Madugu added.
UNIJOS management assured that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies and monitoring the situation closely. Updates will be communicated as necessary to keep the university community informed.
